Tara wins restored Land Rover

- By STEPHEN FERNANE

TARA Buckley from Fossa, Killarney, has won a stylishly restored Land Rover. The project is thanks to the work of Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage, who last January set about restoring the vehicle as a fundraiser for local charities.

The Land Rover toured various events around the country throughout the summer as part of an open draw. But as luck would have it, the winning ticket was a Kerry one, which created huge excitement at the official draw at The Innisfallen Hotel on Saturday night.

“We can’t believe it as there was tickets bought all over the world for this draw. Even up to Saturday night people were buying tickets like mad. It was a huge success as we’ve been selling tickets since last May,” said Tom Leslie, PRO of Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage.

The total raised is not known yet, but two cheque presentations will take place before Christmas to Down Syndrome Kerry and Recovery Haven; and a presentation of the Land Rover to Tara Buckley. Over 300 hours were spent restoring the vehicle by a dedicated and hardworking team of enthusiasts, each of whom received a certificate of involvement as a ‘ thank you’ for their efforts.

“It was an ideal project given Land Rover celebrated 70 years this year. To all the people that worked on this project, and to the sponsors, this project wouldn’t have been possible without them,” Tom said. “The people who bought and sold tickets for the two charities were also exceptional. We’re going to take a rest this winter and just work on small projects for ourselves. We’ve been flat out for the last five years, but it is well worth it when you consider the charities will benefit.”
