The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Great night with sports stars[

- BBy FERGUS DENNEHY

IT was the night that nobody wanted to end, such were the high-quality tales being told by some of Ireland’s biggest sporting names.

An ‘Evening of Sporting Greats’ in Ballyroe Heights Hotel was organised in aid of Recovery Haven, and MC on the night Billy Keane was joined by Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, Ciara Griffin, Aidan O’Mahony and Ted Walsh as they regaled the crowds with anecdotes from their illustrious careers.

A night that was described as a huge success by organiser Dermot Crowley, over €4,500 was raised for the cancer support charity.

“It was certainly a wonderful night. Mícheál is a man who could entertain you forever with stories going way back to the 1940s. I’ve never met anyone like him,” said Dermot when he spoke to The Kerryman on Tuesday.

“Aidan then had his own lovely stories to tell from his fantastic career and then, of course, Ted Walsh, he could certainly get a career as a comedian, the stories he told were so funny. Ciara then is a lovely young lady, and she brought a different perspective to the whole night.”
