Insight into life in engineering at ITT

-

APPLICATIONS are currently open for ‘Engineering Your Future’ (EYF) at IT Tralee.

The four-day hands-on initiative will take place on campus from May 7 to 10, 2019, and has been designed to give Transition Year students a meaningful, practical insight into engineering at third level and as a career.

The annual Transition Year programme is supported by Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme – funded by the SFI Discover Programme and supported by industry leaders, ESB, TII and Arup – and is hosted by a number of third-level institutes throughout Ireland. An industry version of the programme is also run by ESB in Dublin, Limerick and Sligo.

The programme is designed to introduce Transition Year students to the exciting and diverse world of engineering and to help them gain an indepth understanding of the diversity of engineering at third level and in industry. During the programme, students will attend interactive talks and presentations; get hands-on experience with group-based activities; visit local industry and meet engineers at various stages in their careers.

“Engineers are involved in so many exciting and essential roles; they build cities, design medical devices, create entertainment products, maintain communications networks, and much, much more,” said Engineers Ireland Director General Caroline Spillane.

“Without the input of engineers, many great ideas would remain fixed in the imagination and never become a reality. I would urge Transition Year students to apply for a place on the EYF programme and learn how they can push the boundaries of innovation with further study and a career in engineering,” Ms Spillane told The Kerryman.
