Brendan Sinnott inducted into North Kerry Hurling Hall of Fame

FORMER North Kerry Board Treasurer Brendan Sinnott (St. Brendan’s) was honoured with the Hall of Fame Award at the North Kerry Hurling Board Annual Awards function at Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Friday last. Brendan was Treasurer for 14 years (1987 – 2000) and was also deeply involved with his own club St. Brendan’s where he was instrumental in setting up the Minor Club there in 1981.
Guest speaker was the current presenter of Terrace Talk on Radio Kerry, Tim Moynihan. Other speakers included Tim Murphy (Cathaoirleach, Coiste Contae Chiarraí), Paudie Dineen (County Hurling Officer) and Pat Dineen (Cathaoirleach, Bord Iomána Ciarraí Thuaidh).
Awards were presented to the following for their performances in North Kerry finals during 2018: U-13 - Keelan Best (St. Brendan’s) & Andrew Kerins (Tralee Parnell’s); U-14 - Kieran O’Carroll (Ballyduff) & Jack Hannon (Abbeydorney); U-15 - Séamie Ó Fuaráin (Ballyheigue) & Seán Brosnan (St. Brendan’s); U-16 - Kevin Goulding (Ballyduff) & Denis Nolan (Crotta O’Neill’s); Minor - Jack Parker (Abbeydorney) & Colin Waltz Lixnaw; Tom Healy U-15 Tournament - Cup Final Seán Brosnan (St. Brendan’s); Shield Final Tomás Gaynor (Ballyheigue). Player of the Tournament Oisín Maunsell (Abbeydorney).
Man of the Match Awards for adult finals were presented as follows: Under 21 Championship -Gavin Dooley (Causeway); Intermediate Championship - John Brendan O’Halloran Kilmoyley; North Kerry Senior Championship Final Man of Match - Mikey Boyle (Ballyduff).
2018 Achievement Awards - Kerry Under 21 hurlers / Sonny Egan (Crotta O’Neill’s) for Scór. North Kerry Hurling Board Special Merit Awards were presented to Josephine O’Riordan (St. Brendan’s) – for PRO work; Jerome O’Sullivan (Crotta O’Neill’s) – for Coaching work and Ian Brick – for his role with Kerry Under 21 & senior hurlers.
JUNIOR
Causeway won the North Kerry Junior Hurling League title on Sunday last when they defeated Lixnaw in the Final by 5 - 11 to 1 - 7. The game was played at Lixnaw. The winning captain Pádraig Harty was presented with Corn na Seana-Ghaeil by Pat Dineen (Cathaoirleach, Bord Iomána Ciarraí Thuaidh). Match referee was Tom Godley (Kilmoyley).
MUNSTER
The Ballyheigue junior team travel to Raheenagh, near Killeedy, Co. Limerick on this Saturday, December 8 to play Inagh-Kilnamona (Clare) in the Munster Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship quarter final. Throw in time is 1pm.
INTER-COUNTY
Seán Maunsell (Kilmoyley) has joined the Kerry senior hurling management backroom team as a selector. He joins Fintan O’Connor (manager) & Brian Culbert (coach).
Seán, who holds five county senior hurling championship medals, is a current senior club player and played with Kilmoyley in the 2018 County Hurling Final. He captained them to the County Championship title in 2016.
Kerry’s first competition will be in the Munster Senior League which commences in January. Kerry will be in a group with Limerick & Tipperary.
