MUNSTER J-LEAGUE DIVISION 3

Mitchelstown 7 Tralee 17

TRALEE made it six league wins out of seven when they claimed Mitchelstown’s scalp in a top of the table clash last Sunday. Travelling away from home is never easy, but Tralee played like a side that are full of confidence and sent out a message to the rest of their rivals in the J3 league.

The ever reliable Fearghail O Nuallain and Eoin O’Carroll scored tries for Tralee, while Jack Quilter converted both and also added a penalty. Mitchelstown weren’t without their moments either, and they were awarded a penalty try after repeated infringements by an under pressure Tralee defence. Tralee bossed the majority of the game though, and they were full value for their 10-point win.

Bantry Bay 11 Killarney 16

KILLARNEY made the long journey to Bantry count when they came away with the spoils after an excellent performance. Bantry were on Killarney’s coat tails near the top of the table prior to the game, but the away side’s victory sees them push 9 points clear of the west Cork side.

Conditions were far from ideal with a swirling wind and a pitch that was barely playable. The away side played with the elements at their back in the first half and soon made this advantage count with

Paul O’Sullivan scorching over for a try which Oisin O’Shea converted. O’Shea continued to be deadly accurate with the boot and added three penalties with Bantry’s solitary reply coming from the boot of Jason Wycherly to leave the half time score 16-3 in favour of the visitors.

Bantry came at Killarney with all guns blazing in the second half and put the visitors under all sorts of pressure. They made their possession count with a try from Gareth Murphy, whilst Wycherly added another penalty. The Killarney tackling was top notch throughout the game though and they held out for league win number 5 out of 6 and in a healthy second place at the top of the table.

Charleville 36 Castleisland 5

CASTLEISLAND’S away day blues continued with a firm hammering from Charleville last Sunday. Castleisland were again shorn of a number of regulars through injury, and Charleville took full advantage with a ruthless five-try performance.

For Charleville Ger Sheehan scored two tries, and Sean O’Connor, Kieran O’Connell and Cathal Finn were the other try scorers. Jessie Smith converted two of the tries and they were also awarded a penalty try. William Nolan was Castleisland’s try scorer.

Castleisland are in a real relegation dogfight near the bottom of the J2 table with just two wins after 6 games.
