Wedding party results in fine for publican

THE after party of a wedding resulted in a fine for a Ballyduff publican at Listowel District Court on Thursday when the Court heard the large group was found overstaying closing time on the night.

Gardaí said they inspected Lowe’s Bar in the village at 12.32am on June 22 this year to find about 55 people on the premises, consuming alcohol and who ‘continued consuming alcohol in the garda’s presence.’

‘ The staff made no effort to clear the bar,’ gardaí said.

11pm was the closing time on the night, with half-an-hour drinking up time.

Solicitor for publican Philomena Lowe, Lowe’s Bar, Ballyduff, who has held the licence there for 22 years, said the group was part of a wedding after party who stayed on beyond time. Ms Lowe was fined €300 for the offence.
