Busting crime with texts in Causeway

-

CAUSEWAY’S recentlyCommunity Text Alert scheme is already proving a huge success, with 120 members now signed up and more and more across the area gaining awareness of the strength in community in fighting rural crime.

The Causeway Community Alert committee met with Garda Sergeant Paula Kelliher and Garda Keith Maher last Wednesday as their new signs were unveiled, alerting all in the locality as to how the scheme operates.

“If anyone spots suspicious activity in the area, they should contact the gardaí in Listowel and if there’s concern about the report, a text is then sent to all members advising them to be on the look-out and to secure their belongings. It’s a simple scheme and it is working very effectively throughout Kerry,” Community Alert committee chairperson James O’Mahony explained.

Application forms for the scheme are available in the post office, with an annual fee of €10 required to run the scheme.
