Support St Vincent de Paul in Killorglin
THE SVP shop on Iveragh Road is busy this time of year. But people are immensely generous and help in any way they can to ensure others get to enjoy a better Christmas.
Mary Hannon is the store manager and she praised the people of Killorglin and mid Kerry for their generosity when it comes to assistance, for it is this generosity that enables SVP in Killorglin to help as many people as it can.
“The demands on our services have definitely increased again this year, but we’re lucky to have such generous support from the public,” said Mary. The Killorglin SVP shop is an excellent resource that is in constant need of replenishing in terms of items. However, people are asked to donate goods that are of good quality. Discarding old and disused items of poor quality simply for the sake of it is not in keeping with the spirit of making donations. This can be a set back to the good work done by the people at SVP.
Mary said the shop’s location close to some of the major stores is also advantageous in that a steady footfall brings people to the shop on a regular basis. The Killorglin store will be four years opened in May 2019 and it offers a vital service to people in the area.
“There are many different levels of what you might call people in ‘personal difficulty’ and there is no one definition of how a person will need assistance. We would love if people could donate boxed or packaged toys in time for this Christmas. It doesn’t necessarily have to be cash as something as simple as a packaged toy at Christmas can be very precious to people. We rely on the goodwill of the public to help, especially at this time of year, and we’re very lucky with the support we receive,” Mary said.
