Motorsport world mourns passing of Maurice Nagle

-

THE motorsport community in Kerry was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Maurice Nagle on Monday night after a short illness.

The Aghadoe man, father of World Rally Championship star, Paul, was one of the longest serving members of Killarney and District Motor Club.

An accomplished co-driver in his own right, he navigated some of Munster’s greats like Ken Lyons and Tadgh Dineen in the early 1990s.

After KDMC switched the Rally of the Lakes from its original December date to the May Bank Holiday weekend in 1993, Maurice identified the need for a winter event in the town and went on to establish the Killarney Historic Rally in 1996 and as clerk of the course during the event’s formative years.

He drove the road closed car on the most recent historic rally, just under two weeks ago, his final act for a club he gave over 40 year service to.
