SANTA’S ON HIS BIKE

- BY STEPHEN FERNANE

What have Santa and Kerry bikers in common? They both wear beards and travel in style for a good cause. Traditionally, there have always been two Christmas bike runs in the county: Killarney and Tralee.

But Saturday’s event in Killarney marked the inaugural ‘Kerry Christmas Toy Run’, which brings bikers from both towns together for the Christmas event.

This year’s bike ride was organised late in the day due to poor weather conditions, but around 70 bikers still managed to make the trip for the first amalgamated get together. Bikers donned Santa hats to raise money for St Francis Special School in Beaufort and the Kerry Parents & Friends Tralee branch.

The charity spin creates a unique festive atmosphere with the much cherished bikes attracting plenty of attention prior to the off. Once the engines started the procession set off for the Ring of Kerry for another memorable day.

“We’re very proud of it and there is no better place than the Ring of Kerry. We’re very happy with it as some donated money and toys. The money is still coming in so we’re thrilled with that. It’s onwards and upwards from now on for this event,” John Keogh said.

John also thanked the following sponsors for their assistance: Sign- Co Killarney, The Shire, Corrib Filling Station, Tralee, Sheehan’s in Muckross Road, and Patricia in Scott’s Hotel, Killarney.
