Concert windfall for Ard Chúram plans
PLANS for a new Alzheimer’s Centre in North Kerry got off to a magnificent start in Listowel as the Ard Chúram Day Care Service and its talented choir staged a special concert in St Mary’s Church.
That concert, held on Friday, November 23, last resulted in a cheque for €11,255 that was presented to Ard Churam Chairman Tom Pierse and Vice Chairman Brendan O’Sullivan by Co-ordinator of the Ard Chúram Choir Mairéad Hanlon recently.
It marks the first of numerous fundraising activities the Ard Chúram will be undertaking in order to make the Alzheimer plans a reality by 2020. Ard Chúram paid tribute to the choir and the wonderful concert that was enjoyed by all in the community.
“It was like Christmas Eve on Friday, November 23, in St Mary’s Church as a large audience congregated to hear the musical strains of Ard Chúram’s new choir and friends as they staged a magnificent fundraising concert for their proposed new Alzheimer Centre,” a spokesperson said.
“The choir had come together six months ago under a Healthy Ireland Funding allocation from Kerry County Council in partnership with the Ard Chúram. It rehearsed under Mary Culloty O’Sullivan, a soprano from Killarney who studied voice under Dr Veronica Dunne. The MC for the evening was Owen McMahon who, with consummate ease, weaved the various acts into one excellent night’s entertainment.”
Ard Chúram now operates its day care centre for older people four days a week in its state-of-the-art premises in Listowel, with a post-stroke service operating one day a week there too. Over 90 attend from across North Kerry and such is demand there are plans for a sixth day.
