Munster grants are awarded
THE Munster Council has announced details of the 2018 Development Grant Scheme, which has provided €1,130,000 in funding for club and school capital development projects across the province.
Under the scheme Kerry received €124,771 from 23 applications, Clare received €176,771 from 22 applications, Cork received €221,709 from 42 applications, Limerick received €206,907 from 35 applications, Tipperary received €281,011 from 38 applications and Waterford received €64,755 from 15 applications.
Funding is allocated based on the amount spent and on the category of development. On Monday night, Development Officer Eamon Whelan and Munster Council Delegate Gerard McCarthy presented the Kerry clubs with their cheques.
The following were the grants awarded: Beaufort €5,833.83; Churchill €20,000; Cordal €6,107.12; Daingean Ui Cuis €1,589.49; Dr. Crokes € 12,543.37; Fossa € 20,000; Glenbeigh Handball €2,500; Kenmare €3,187.52; Kilcummin € 12,543.37; Lixnaw €2,152.32; Milltown / Castlemaine €8,271.10; Spa € 12,543.37.
Sanding Development Grants: Cromane €2,000; Currow €2,000; Dr Crokes €2,000; Finuge €2,000; Firies €2,000; Listry €2,000; Rathmore €2,000.
Legal Grants: Abbeydorney €700; Ballydonoghue €700; Brosna €700; Cromane €700; Lispole €700.
AIB All-Ireland Club
MATCH details have been confirmed for the AIB All-Ireland Club Football Championship semi-finals.
Dr Crokes will face Mullinalaghta in the Senior Club Final on Saturday, February 16 at 3.30pm in Semple Stadium, Thurles. In the Intermediate semi-final, Kilcummin face Two Mile House of Kildare on Sunday, January 20, at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick at 2pm. Also at 2pm on January 20, Beaufort play Dundalk Young Irelands of Louth in the Juniors semi-final in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise.
Raffle
THE draw for the Kerry GAA Car Raffle was made at County Convention. The car was won by Spa GAA club for a second consecutive year! The complete list of winners is as follows: 1. Car Opel Grandland X - Spa GAA; 2. Holiday to the value of €1000 - John Galvin; 3. 2 night break in the Skellig Hotel Dingle - James Foley; 4. €100 voucher Kerry GAA Store - Megan O’Sullivan; 5. €100 voucher Kerry GAA Store - Paul Patrick O’Sullivan.
Supporters Club
THE Kerry GAA Supporters club Annual Social takes place on January 19 in the Ballygarry House Hotel.
It was a successful 2018 for Kerry teams on the playing fields and the Kerry GAA supporters club will honour those achievements. The highlight was the five in a row All Ireland Minor Titles.
Kerry Supporters Club league travel 2019 is just around the corner. There will be three away games, Galway is a day trip and Cavan and Roscommon are overnight stays. These overnight trips must be booked two weeks before travel.
New Range
THE Keohane American Football Jersey is designed in memory of former Kerry player, Manager and Selector Joe Keohane.
Paul Galvin’s American football style design commemorates Kerry’s relationship with the United States. Joe Keohane was a proud John Mitchels Man and would have been 100 years old this year.
He won four All-Irelands as a player and eight as a selector with Mick O’Dwyer. He also won several county championships with John Mitchels. Joe was named as one of the 125 best players of all time. The jersey is available online and in store.
Season’s Greetings

THE Kerry senior hurlers will open the new season with a home game against All-Ireland champions Limerick in the Coop Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League on this Thursday, December 20. Venue is Austin Stack Park, Tralee where there will be a 7.30pm throw-in time. The team will be announced on the Kerry GAA website on Wednesday at 5.30pm
Round 2 will be an away game against Tipperary at McDonagh Park, Nenagh on Saturday, January 5 at 2pm. Kerry will open their 2019 Allianz Hurling League campaign on the weekend of January 27 with an away trip to Antrim.
Colleges
TRALEE CBS won Munster Colleges U-19 ‘E’ Hurling title on Friday last when they had a 3-14 to 3-4 win over Mercy Mounthawk in an all Kerry final played at the IT Tralee pitch. The joint captains were Tadhg Brick and Darragh O’Donoghue.
In the Munster Colleges U-19 C competition, Causeway Comprehensive School had a 1-17 to 0-17 win over Cork side, Coachford College. They will now play a quarter final tie against Ballincollig Community School on Wednesday, 9 January.
