SUBWAY INTER LEAGUE Under 13

KERRY ended the League phase of the Subway Munster Inter League with a big win at home against Limerick County. At Mounthawk Park Kerry got off to the perfect start and Keelan O’Shea put them 1-0 up after five miniutes.

Kerry continued to dominate the first 30 minutes and goals from Mint O’Connor, Andrew Kerins and Jack Slattery had the home side in control. Limerick County pulled one back to leave Kerry 4-1 ahead.

With third place up for grabs in the group Kerry pushed on and they added two more goals from Barry Fitzsimons. While the visitors did add a second it was Kerry that took a good win – 6-2 – to finish behind Limerick Desmond and Limerick District, but ahead of Clare, North Tipperary and Limerick County.

This give Kerry a bye into the Munster Plate semi-final where they will be at home to the winners of Clare and South Tipperary with the game scheduled for the weekend of January 12 /13.

Under 15

KERRY travelled to Cahir Park for a huge game with not just a place in the Munster Plate Final up for grabs but also the chance to keep their National hopes alive.

And they did it following a 4-2 win in a game that they dominated for long periods. The visitors got off to the perfect start and were 1-0 up after six minutes. Adam Segal and Rocco Rujeuvcan set up Colin Doody for the goal.

It got even better for Kerry as Raymond O’Neill and Doody combined to find Segal on the edge of the box and he made no mistake from eighteen yards. Oisin Lavin was by far the busier keeper in the South Tipp goal saving from Tom Whittleton and Segal with Sean O’Connell creating havoc on the left wing.

However, these saves gave the home side confidence and they were back in the game in the 16th minutes when Donnach Troy showed good feet in the box to beat Seán Moloney in the Kerry goal.

Moloney then had to make a great double save after a South Tipp corner and the home side looked for an equaliser. And that equaliser came on the stroke of half-time when Tristan McCormack’s perfect free kick gave Moloney no chance and the game was tied at 2-2 at the half.

Both managements knew that the next goal was vital and it was Kerry that took over again after the break.

Rujeuvcan, Cianan Cooney and Cillian Murphy all went close before Kerry took the lead again.

Cooney did well when he found space in the box and his shot across Lavin ended up in the corner of the net. With the Kerry defence on top South Tipp were unable to create any meaningful chances and Kerry should have wrapped up the win but O’Connell hit the post and Tom Whittleton’s follow-up came off the crossbar.

They did get the insurance goal late in the game when Cianan Cooney smashed home an unstoppable shot to wrap up the 4-2 win.

This now means that Kerry will face North Tipperary on the weekend of January 19 and 20 with the winner also qualifying for the Subway SFAI National semi-final.
