Brick hat-trick for Kilmoyley

- REFEREE: Denis Guerin

DENNY DIVISION 2B

Kilmoyley Athletic 5 CG Killarney B 1

A HAT-TRICK by prolific goalscorer Jordan Brick gave Kilmoyley Athletic a comfortable win over CG Killarney at Mounthawk Park on Friday night. This win and extends their 100 % record to nine games at puts them eight points clear at the top of the table.

The CG defence had no answer to the silken skills of Brick and as well as bagging three goals he set up the other two for good measure. However, the scoreline is a bit harsh on CG as they had a lot of possession, but they were being repeatedly let down with the last pass in the final third of the pitch.

They play an appealing passing game with goalkeeper Darragh O’Regan tapping the ball to his full backs from most goal kicks and they built their attacks from the back.

Kilmoyley got off to an explosive start going ahead in the fifth minute when Jordan Brick delivered a great ball into the box from a sideline free kick and James McCarthy ghosted in at the back post and his header found the back of the net.

CG had a good opportunity to get an equaliser in the 25th minute when David McCarthy got in behind the Kilmoyley defence and just as he was about to pull the trigger inside the box a superb tackle by Douglas Fitzell saved the day for Kilmoyley.

Kilmoyley doubled their lead in the 30th minute with Daniel Collins setting up Jordan Brick and he applied a great finish. Then CG’s Sam Treharne was taken down on the verge of the box after a great run. The free kick was taken by David McCarthy and it was just inches outside the left hand post.

Then CG’s Sean O’Leary seemed to be taken down in the box but nothing transpired which displeased the CG players. CG forced a corner kick, which was floated into the goalmouth by Bogdan Pop and Conor Collins put his effort on goal over the top.

Kilmoyley put this game to bed three minutes into the second half with a splendid goal. Defender Douglas Fitzell made a great run up the left wing and sent in a long diagonal cross which found Sean Nolan and he headed home from six yards.

CG then enjoyed a good spell of pressure and the Kilmoyley keeper Pádraig Godley had to make a double save to deny Conor Collins. Kilmoyley extended their lead in the 75th minute when a huge delivery out of defence by goalkeeper Pádraig Godley was latched on to by Jordan Brick and he showed great composure picking his spot from close range.

Brick completed his hat-trick four minutes later when he won possession at midfield and spotting the CG goalie off his line he delivered a delicious shot which sailed over the keeper and into the net for a goal of sheer class.

Brick has scored 17 goals in nine games, which is a remarkable achievement. CG got a late consolation goal when Owen Kerrisk was bundled over in the box and referee Denis Guerin pointed to the spot.

Bogdan Pop took the spot kick and drilled it low to the bottom corner of the net. Even at this early stage of the league Kilmoyley are almost bankers to make it to the final and there will be a big fight to see who will join them.
