Coffee Morning next Sunday morning December 23rd at Ashe’s Shop, Annascaul, to fund raise for Ellen Ashe volunteeri­ng for two weeks with Cara Projects Kenya at a Woman & Child rescue centre - All welcome!

LIGHTING OF THE VILLAGE

Just to say a big thank you to Pauline and Derek Hunt for their wonderful Christmas display which lights up the village and to Adam Newstead who put in the hard work. Many thanks to Colm Moriarty, GAA All Star and Killian Falvey, Man of the Match, Kerry Minor Football five-in-a-row champions who switched on the lights on the village Christmas tree.

INCH PARKRUN

We are planning a ‘Santa Hat’ parkrun for Dec 22nd on Inch Beach. Just turn up as usual with any sort of Santa hat on and we’ll bring the festive spirit to the beach. New Years Day Run Swim Run. We are putting on an extra parkrun for New Years Day, Tuesday 1st Jan at 9am. There has been some rumors about some parkrunner­s wanting to do the run first, followed by a refreshing Atlantic dip, then a final run to warm up the bones in Tralee for their 11am parkrun. All aboard ! Not a bad way to start the new year.

A PRESENT FOR CHRISTMAS

Ballinclár DVD is a video of a rural fair which takes place in Annascaul in 1995/1996 and it is on sale at Ashes Shop and in O Donnell’s shop, Annascaul. This is a really fabulous production, a story/ through the lens of Bill Dillon, an excellent videograph­er and stories told by the local people of the village. Priced at €20.

CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE

The annual Christmas Carol service will be preformed by the Students of Scoil Bhreac Chluain and will be held on Thursday 20 December at Sacred Heart Church, Annascaul @ 1pm. All welcome.

PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT GETS OVER €800

The Lougher farmer and father of eight, Paddy Hickson celebrated his 70th Birthday recently with family and friends in Foley’ s Bar, Inch. Paddy agreed to the party provided there were no gifts and people would instead make a donation, if they wanted, to the Pallative Care Unit of University Hospital Kerry. Everyone enjoyed the reunion and a chance for everyone to come together and share stories and memories which Paddy himself has plenty of. A whopping €800 has been donated and they are still counting. Well done Paddy.

DINGLE WAY COMMITTEE

We are delighted to be advised of a major grant of €208,000 towards the upkeep, re-routing and maintenanc­e of the Dingle Way long distance walk/Slí Chorcha Dhuibhne on the Dingle Peninsula. This grant was provided by the Dept of Rural Affairs, through Minister Michael Ring. Our own Minister for Tourism Brendan Griffin did excellent work in securing this grant, We thank him for this and acknowledg­e his input. We would also like to thank Kerry CC, Udarás na Gaeltachta, NEWKD, and SKDP for their great support/ input and advise in getting this grant applicatio­n together. A very profession job by all. We look forward to the years ahead providing the Dingle Peninsula with a world class walking product for all to be proud of.

FUNDRAISIN­G EVENT

Annascaul Adventures are delighted to share that we have been able to make the following donations amounting to €800 to this year’s chosen charities from the Inch beach half marathon and 10k which took place on 16 September. The chosen charities were The Brothers of Charity and CUAN Counsellin­g. -Brothers of Charity, Tralee €400 -CUAN counsellin­g, Dingle €400. Thank you so much to everyone that came to take part and make our event a huge success this year. We look forward to 2019.

ANNUAL SALE OF WORK

The Parents’ Associatio­n of Scoil Bhreacc Chluain would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the individual­s and businesses who made generous donations and vouchers in support of our annual sale of work in November. The night was a great success which raised much needed funds for our school while also bringing to life the true community spirit of Annascaul
