IN THE FIGHT OF OUR LIVES

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

KERRY man Ross Hurley is in a fight for survival after the shock diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in October - the cancer which is known as a silent killer.

His life and that of his wife, Nina, was turned upside down with the diagnosis, which came after Ross became jaundiced - something he had put down to an unhealthy lifestyle. Having undergone a number of tests, all returned clear but it wasn’t until a junior doctor tested for cancer markers that Ross learned of his fate.

“A friend told me I didn’t look well but after scans and tests, nothing came up but finally it was discovered,” explains Ross.

The couple, who live in Callinafercy, have now opted to try and get immunotherapy to fight the cancer and the only way to do this is by travelling abroad for the treatment which is not available in Ireland for this type of cancer. “I just want to live life. This is my only chance and we are pleading for help to raise the funds for my treatment,” he said.

A Go Fund Me page is now online: Help Ross beat pancreatic cancer.
