PRESENTATION Castleisland held its annual Student Enterprise School Final and Christmas Carol Service in St John’s Hall just before Christmas.

On the day, 11 first year enterprises were on display and one second year enterprise.

“A total of 45 students took part in this year’s programme, and two prizes in the first year category and one in the second year were up for decision,” said organiser and teacher Pierce Dargan.

“These three groups will now go on to represent the school at the county final of the Kerry Student Enterprise in IT Tralee in March.

“The two first-year groups are as follows: ‘Earyfix’ with their all-in-one earpiece that has a pen/pencil clip and an ear plug attachment for builders, designed by Emma Keane, Katie Walshe, Ciara Cahill.

“The ‘75 Degrees of Safety’, with their metal ladder, shows that a ladder is at the safest angle of 75 degrees, and this was designed by Lauren O’Connor, Aoife O’Leary, Sarah Mason, Blaitnaid Casey and Aine Murphy.

“The second-year group won its way through with its ‘Crios Mhadra’ – the car safety harness for dogs by Kelly Anne Nix and Katelyn Curtin.

“Margaret Murphy from the Local Enterprise Office, along with Lisa Henchy, Bank of Ireland manager, Castleisland; and Kerry senior footballer, Shane Enright, were in attendance.

“The Bank of Ireland kindly sponsored all trophies on the day. The girls are hoping to retain their county title and go on to hopefully have a shot at retaining the All-Ireland title of last year, won by the ‘Complete Camán’ group,” said Mr Dargan – who led last year’s group to All-Ireland success.

Preparing for the next building boom with their ‘EaryFix’ solution. Prize winners: Emma Keane, Katie Walsh and Ciara Cahill with their award-winning product.
