The Kerryman (North Kerry)

How much different will Class of 2018 look in ’19?

-

THE photograph below is the most recent of a Kerry team to take to a playing field: the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final Round 3 win over Kildare last August.

Of the 26 players togged that day we know that six are no longer part of the new panel being assembled by new manger Peter Keane and his selectors. Donnchadh Walsh was on the panel that day but he, too, has retired, while Ronan Shanahan is another who featured prominently last year but hasn’t been recalled this year.

New names have been invited in to pre-season training – such as Shane Ryan, Mark Ryan, Dara Moynihan, Gavin O’Brien, Diarmuid O’Connor, Tommy Walsh, Tómas Ó Sé, Jonathan Lyne and Jack Sherwood – but here we look at the 26 men who most recently represented Kerry in a senior match and assess who’s in, who’s gone and what those who are still there have to offer. HAVING just been brought back into the squad last year the 28-year old seems surplus to requirements again having not been called up by the new management. Has Dr Crokes duties at the moment, which could earn him a recall if the new regime were of a mind ONE of four very senior players to call time on their Kerry careers at the end of last year. The Duagh man didn’t contribute as much as he’d have liked in 2018 but his absence deprives Kerry of a powerful, athletic and savvy presence around the middle of the field
