Bantry 11 Killarney 18

KILLARNEY claimed a major scalp when they accounted for Bantry in the Munster Junior Cup.

The away side started very well and soon raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to a penalty from Oisín O’Shea. They were fortunate to see a Bantry claim for a try ruled out soon afterwards after the referee consulted with his linesman who had spotted an indiscretion. The action was pretty even for the remainder of the first half and Killarney’s single penalty saw them take the lead in at half-time.

O’Shea struck for his second penalty of the game to push Killarney 6-0 ahead, but Bantry scored a penalty of their own to peg the score line back to 6-3.

Next came the pivotal moment of the game when Brian Lynch struck for an excellent Killarney try which was converted by O’Shea to push them 13-3 ahead.

The closing moments of the game were pretty hectic as Bantry threw the kitchen sink at Killarney and got right back into the contest with a good try. Killarney were determined to get the win though, and Brian Lynch struck for his second try of the game at the death to secure the victory.

Bruff 44 Killorglin 19

A POOR first half ultimately cost Killorglin in this game.

The visitors went into the half-time break 22-0 down and seemingly dead and buried. They called on all of their reserves of courage and energy to dominate the second half however, and scored 19 points with the Killorglin tries coming from Darragh O’Shea and Mike Breen as well as being awarded a penalty try. Luke O’Shea also added a conversion for Killorglin.
