BROSNA GAA

The GAA would like to express its thanks for everyone involved in the St Stephen’s Day Parish League. An amount of €1,111 was raised for the Church Renovation Fund and a thrilling game of football was enjoyed with a nail-biting conclusion that saw the sides finish with a draw.

THREE COUNTIES 4K FUNDRAISIN­G SERIES

4k Run or Walk on Sunday 13 January starting at 1 pm from Brosna GAA Pitch. Organised by the brilliant Brosna Couch to 5k Group and Duhallow Athletic Club. Proceeds in aid of the recent upgrade to the excellent walking track at Brosna GAA field. Please come out and Run, Walk or Crawl to support this great local facility.

CON CURTIN FESTIVAL

The Festival Committee wishes our community and friends at home and abroad a very Happy New Year. Put festival dates 28th June to 1st July in your diaries for the Festival themed ‘Return Home to Brosna’. The Committee is encouragin­g our families and friends living away from Brosna to make the Festival a destinatio­n of choice for this wonderful annual event. All visitors can be guaranteed a very special welcome. A big thank you to all the Festival supporters over the past year - your generosity and efforts ensure the continued success of this well-regarded cultural event.

ROCKCHAPEL MUSIC EVENT

Bruach Na Carraige Rockchapel will hold a new year Seisiun on Friday the 4th of January at 8pm

The Ceoltoiri Sliabh Luachra DVD Music from the Manuscript­s will be available on the night.

These manuscript­s contain some of Irelands oldest music from the manuscript­s of some of Irelands greatest collectors.

They also contain music from the manuscript­s of local collectors such as Dave Dan Curtin from Stagmount Rockchapel. his father Dan Curtin , whose manuscript­s go back to before 1850 and contain an older Sliabh Luachra music.

The DVD also has music from the manuscript­s of Dave Leahy of Secondglos­s Mountcolli­ns who died in 1907, the DVD also a range of the old solo step dances which has almost vanished from the tradition. in Foleys Bar, Inch on Saturday night last. And among the attendance were Thomas and Maura’s entire family, their 15 children were all there to celebrate with their father. And it was a double celebratio­n for the O Donnell family, Thomas’s daughter Elizabeth was also celebrated her engagement to Michael O Mahony. Congratula­tions Elizabeth and Michael and the best of luck to you both. And Congratula­tions Thomas, may you enjoy many more birthdays ! Go maire tú an chéad !

ANNASCAUL GAA AND COISTE NA NÓG

Our club AGM was held last night and we can confirm our Senior Board Officers will continue in their roles for 2019, Chairman Paudie Moriarty; Secretary Mairead Clifford, Treasurers James McCarthy and Shane Foley and PRO Elaine Barry. We are also delighted to confirm that David Clifford, Pat McKenna and John Bowler will continue managing our Senior team.

THE STORM FESTIVAL

Dinner & Art and Photo Exhibition is less than a month away. Are you coming to enjoy the meal? There will be a choice of meat fish or vegetarian options. The price €15, or €12 for children under 12. Of course there will be all the trimmings- soup, bread, vegetables, 2 choices of dessert and tea, coffee and juice. You can bring your own wine but no beer or spirits. Date: Saturday 2nd February at 6.30pm in the Club Rooms. After dinner Speaker to be announced next week

LENDING LIBRARY

There are a variety of books for adults and children in our lending library in the small room in the Club Rooms. Come and borrow for free! We want to thank those sincerely who have provided bookcases for the library. We no longer need any more book cases. We do have room for more books now, however. So we are happy to take in more books please!

CASTLEGREG­ORY GOLF CLUB

ON Sunday last, the Captain’s Drive-in took place at Castlegreg­ory Golf Club where the incoming captains, John Dillane and Karen Tess addressed the large gathering. Also present were incoming Presidents, Eddie Hannifin and Merlyn O’Connor.

Seventy-two players took to the fairways for a very enjoyable morning’s golf and were treated to a wonderful buffet afterwards in the clubhouse.
