GRANDPARENTS ENJOY A SPECIAL DAY OUT IN KILFYNN

SPECIAL DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AS THEY VISIT SCOIL NAOFA TREASA IN KILFLYNN TO SEE GRANDCHILDREN

-

IT was a Saint Brigid’s Day with a difference this year at Scoil Treasa Naofa, Kilflynn, as it gave the school an opportunity to celebrate Grandparents Day.

One can never state enough times how important and integral the role of grandparents is in children’s lives, offering them love and support at every turn.

“It is for this reason that they deserve a day of celebration,” said Sinead Hogan of Scoil Treasa Naofa when speaking to

Grandparents were invited to a Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, where the pupils read, played and sang beautifully. Following Mass, everyone went back to the school to enjoy refreshments and the large gathering was warmly entertained by the school’s fantastic musicians, while parents and grandparents also got to enjoy a tour of the school and its facilities.

Needless to say, the children were very excited to show off their school and classrooms. Grandparents were then given gifts of Saint Brigid’s crosses made by the fifth- and sixthclass pupils and also received a gift of seeds, symbolising the fact that a grandparent’s love is: ‘strong and deep, filled with memories to cherish and keep’.

“We hope that they will enjoy spending some quality time together planting these seeds and making some new and special memories.

“We remembered all our grandparents who are no longer with us, and these seeds can also be planted in their memory,” said Sinead.

School principal Íde Brosnan thanked the school’s Parents’ Association for their help, and she also hopes that all the grandparents and grandchildren enjoyed the day. She added that she is looking forward to seeing them returning again in 2020.
