Doonkinane Flash goes best for Courtney on slow Tuesday

-

THERE was a livelier buzz than usual at last week’s Tuesday SIS meeting at the Oakview venue thanks to an influx of students from the local Institute of Technology and, while the times on the night might not have resonated much with the students, the important thing from a doggy point of view was that just one greyhounds managed get inside 29.00 seconds on going that was rated .10 slow.

That was Doonkinane Flash, a March ’ 16 son of Droopys Cain and Shana Lass, which clocked 28.93 when winning the eighth race (A1 525) for Michael Courtney, of Faha, Killarney (agent, Michael Long).

Doonkinane Flash had been well fancied at 9/4 a week previously when third to 9/1 shot, Clonkil Blackie, in an estimated 29.14 and the two were renewing rivalry, with Doonkinane Flash in trap 1 this time instead of trap 2 and Clonkil Blackie in trap 5 instead of trap 6.

It was not expected that Clonkil Blackie would confirm the form of a week previously, for the very good reason that she was on offer at 6/1, but Doonkinane wasn’t exactly a leading fancy either at 7/2.

However, Doonkinane Flash got the start he wanted this time, enabling him to lead around the opening bend from Boomtown Tony and Cashen Maputo, and he was not for catching after that, finishing a length and a half in front of Cashen Maputo for what was his fourth victory from twenty starts.

Clonkil Blackie finished last, to show what can happen from one race to the next when the same greyhounds are involved.

Mostly, the results were favourable enough, but there was a real upset in the seventh race (A2 525) which was won most decisively by 8/1 shot, Astarforróisín, in 29.14, while the sixth race over the sprint distance for S5 class saw 11/2 shot, Toremore Rising, win from 8/1 shot, Oak Beauty, in 18.02 (.05 slow).

Other winners: Glanna Madam (7/2), 29.86; Steeple Rd Taylr (5/2), 29.63; Devon Flash (9/4), 18.03; Pretty Olivia (5/2), 29.15; Teevee Dawn (7/4), 29.61; Kanefaw (6/4), 29.19; Millridge Zero (4/1), 29.31.

SUNDAY SIS MEETING

A quick-fire double for Millstreet owner, Donal G O’Mahony, was the highlight at Sunday evening’s SIS session.

O’Mahony won the fourth race (A4 525) with 5/2 favourite, Millridge Posh, in 29.39 and he immediately followed up by winning the fifth race (A3 525) with 4/1 shot, Millridge Zero, in 29.33.

Fastest at the session was 6/1 outsider, Bonnan Rory, which clocked 29.09 in the seventh race (A2 525) on going that was rated .10 slow, while the other winners were: Inislosky Genie, 29.89; Wompa Woman, 29.56; Irremore Max, 29.24; Lassinagh Spring, 29.28; She’s Able, 29.74.
