‘Safer Internet Day’ celebrations at Presentation Castleisland

-

NO strangers to the use of digital technologies to advance the education of students in their care, Presentation Secondary School celebrated Safer Internet day this week. The occasion was marked with a series of workshops to educate students about positive online behaviour and how to deal with the issues that can arise online.

Facilitated by Danute Voveryte, the school’s ‘Safer Internet Day’ Ambassador, the workshops promoted the safe and positive use of digital technology among young people.

Danute is also a member of the Webwise Youth Panel. This panel consists of 30 young people nationally who develop resources for parents, teachers and students in the area of internet safety.

“The workshops involved activities to highlight the dangers students encounter online, and encouraged each student to think about their own online behaviour“according to ICT coordinator Annette Leen. “The fact that they were peer-led meant that students engaged wholeheartedly with the workshops, as they felt that one of their peers understood most precisely the issues they face online” said Ms Leen.
