Lios Póil goes to the dogs for school and club

- BY TADHG EVANS

LIOS Póil has never been accused of lacking in community spirit, and if you head to Kingdom Greyhound Stadium this Saturday night, it’s likely you’ll find out why.

Doors at the stadium will open at 6.45pm ahead of a 7.45pm start for the racing, and if you’re any bit late getting there, don’t be surprised if there’s a large Lios Póil contingent there to greet you. That’s because the funds raised on the night will go towards the local GAA club and Scoil Naomh Eoin Baiste, and there is much excitement amongst both parties ahead of Saturday.

Nicola Fitzgerald of the Scoil Naomh Eoin Baiste Parents’ Council and Board of Management said she is very grateful to the local GAA for agreeing to go ‘50-50’ on the funds, as there are plans for a set-down/drop-off area at the school.

“I want to thank the club, the parents, and the people of the parish for their support so far ahead of the night,” she told The Kerryman. “We are really looking forward to it, and with a race commemorating local man Bobby Hickson also taking place, it’s all the more exciting.”

CLG Lios Póil Chairman Kevin Griffin expressed similar sentiments.

“We are all looking forward to a great night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium,” he said. “We would like to thank everyone who has bought tickets for the night or helped in any way.”

There’s also more than racing involved, with face-painting, bouncy castles, and music all lined up for the night.

Tickets are available from Kate’s Cross and Keane’s shops; O’Sullivan’s Bar in Garraí na dTor; GAA committee members; and Scoil Naomh Eoin Baiste Parents’ Council and Board of Management figures.
