Causeway students’ vision for future of energy on estuary
STUDENTS of Causeway Comprehensive took second place in a prestigious competition involving schools from across the greater Shannon Estuary region that urged competitors to set out their vision for the future of energy.
Causeway Comprehensive students Sarah Lawlor, Stephen Lynch, Ava Griffin, Aine Moriarty and Erika Diggins were the sole Kerry scholars to make it through to the final, travelling to Foynes on Friday for the finals of the biennial Shannon Foynes Port Company ‘COMPASS’ competition for transition year. They made it to the final out of an initial round of a record 45 entries, Shannon Foynes Port Company said, which was held in the Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum. All-Ireland winning Limerick hurling manager John Kiely was guest speaker at the event.
The Causeway group was shortlisted for their project KTPE - Kerry Turbine-Powered Energy; receiving medals and the prize of a day’s sailing on the Shannon Estuary.
