Harty in the medals indoors

THE indoor season got into full swing this weekend with Munster championsh­ips for the U-9 to U-11 age groups as well as Junior, Senior and Masters categories.

On Saturday, was the turn of the younger athletes with a great turn out across all discipline­s. Lios Tuathail’s top performer was Steve Reidy winning both the U-10 60m and long jump. Mason Sheehy Elston took silver in the Boys U-9 60m.

Tralee Harriers ACs Stephen Harty was in the medals with silver in the U-10 long jump and a bronze in the 60m, Farranfore Maine Valleys Isacc Vickers took 3rd in the U-11 600m, Kenmare AC’s Luke Merrigan has transition­ed from the cross country season to indoor seamlessly taking silver in the U-11 600m.

Sunday saw the turn of the Junior, U-23 and Senior/Master events there was a good turn out from the Kerry clubs with many of them medalling, and some even breaking CBP records.

Junior, U-23 and Senior results. Ciara Kennelly of Killarney valley was showing that the winters training has definitely paid off setting a new PB and CBP in the Junior Women’s High Jump with a leap of 1.75m.

Tralee Harriers AC had a fantastic day with Cillian Griffin winning double gold in the Junior Men’s 60m and 200m, Leanne Cronin taking top honours in the Junior Women’s W4D setting a CBP in the process and Orla O’Reilly winning silver in the Junior Women’s 60m. Rachel Bowler was second in the U-23 Women’s Long jump, Basit Oyebanji was third in the Junior Men’s 60m and Jordan Kissane was third in the Junior Men’s 200m.

St. Brendan’s AC’s Aaron Malik won gold in Junior Men’s 60m hurdle and there was silver for Michael Tony of Lios Tuathail AC in the Junior Men’s triple jump.

David Kenny of Farranfore Maine Valley entered the U-23 and Senior Men’s walking races where he took gold in both setting a CBP in the U-23 age group. Rossa Foley achieved three medals in the U-23 Men’s shot put, weight for distance and triple jump.

Kenmare’s Christine McCarthy had a good weekend with competing for UL in the IUAA indoors in Athlone on Friday and Nenagh on Sunday taking Silver in the Junior Women’s high jump.

MASTER RESULTS

THE men and women of Kerry also travelled to Nenagh for the Masters O-35 to O-90s Indoor Championsh­ips. As a county they did very well with Championsh­ip Best Performanc­es going to several clubs.

Ursula Barrett O40, 1st 60m, 200m and long jump; David Kissane O65 3rd 400m and shot; David Butler O35 2nd shot, 3rd 200m; Martin Butler O65 2nd shot, 3rd 800m.

Patsy O’Connor O60 1st shot, high jump and weight for distance; Donal Crowley O70 2nd 400m and 3rd 800m.

AT the IUAA Indoors in Athlone on Friday, David Kenny of FFMV took top spot in the 2000m walk and there was a third place finish for Travane Morrisson of Tralee Harriers in the 60m with a time of 6.86. Rossa Foley of Farranfore Maine Valley took third in the weight for distance, competing for UL for the first time were Rachel Bowler (Tralee Harriers) who was 4th in long jump and 5th in triple jump and Kenmare’s Christine McCarthy who was 5th in high jump. Shona O’Brien from Gneeveguil­la was 6th in the 800m.
