MS ST VALENTINE’S DAY COFFEE MORNING:

The annual St Valentine’s Day Coffee Morning takes place on Saturday next, February 16th at Tomáisín’s . Time: 11.00 1.00pm. Come along and meet the neighbours and enjoy delicious home-baking. Great raffle prizes. All monies collected are used locally for therapies, etc. Your support will be much appreciate­d by the Listowel/North Kerry branch of MS.

CCE NEWS

Ballydonog­hue/Lisselton CCE will hold its branch concert in Tomáisín’s Hall next Saturday night, 16th February starting at 6.30pm sharp. Doors will open at 6pm. This will give the children a special opportunit­y to showcase their work of the year. It is always a most enjoyable evening of Music Song and Dance.

Best wishes to all our branch members competing at the Munster final of Ceoil an Gheimhridh in Dromcollog­her next Sunday, 17th February. They will compete in set dancing, Music, singing and comhra gaeilge competitio­ns.

Congratula­tions to the following young musicians who have qualified to the All Ireland Community games In UL next May. In Solo Music U12 category, Jack Purcell was victorious and U16 Instrument­al Group Ballydonog­hue were also victorious with Iseult Long, Mairead Barry, Grace Whelan, Áibhinn O Neill, Éibhe Lawlee, Ruby Falvey. Also coming 3rd in the Instrument­al Music group were musicians Ella Dalton, Sinead Barry, Jack Purcell, Eliza O Donnell, Edel Dillane and Emily Kissane. U16 solo Music Ruby Falvey came 3rd.

Ballydonog­hue/Lisselton CCE extends its hearty congratula­tions to Anne and Nicky McAuliffe, Castleisla­nd in advance of the presentati­on of their TG4 Gradam Ceoil Lifetime Achievemen­t award on Sunday, 17th February.

Anne and Nicky were one of the many Music teachers who taught in Ballydonog­hue/Lisselton CCE classes down through the years and have left a great legacy in this area.

We, in Comhaltas are very proud of Anne and Nicky and we are absolutely thrilled that their lifetime contributi­on to Irish traditiona­l music is getting due recognitio­n.

Known as ‘the Oscars of Traditiona­l Music’, we look forward to the live concert and awards show on TG4 at 9.00 pm

It will take place at the Waterfront Hall, Beal Feirste on Sunday 17th February, promising a night of foot-stomping entertainm­ent right in the heart of Belfast for the second year running.

LISSELTON SCHOOL ENROLMENT:

Lisselton national School is now enrolling students for September 2019. Details and enrolment forms are available from the school. Contact the school on 068-47240. Parents and prospectiv­e students are welcome to visit the school on any Monday throughout February and March, 2.15 3.00pm.

PARISH MAGAZINE:

The committee of BPM is busy planning the 35th consecutiv­e edition of your Parish Magazine and is on the lookout for the following, entries for the Maurice Walsh Creative Writing, the Johnny Bambury Poetry, and the Senior Photograph­y. Email to magazine@ballydonog­hue.net or post to Lisselton Post Office. Other items of interest are, photos of farm machinery, eg. Pulpers, cabbage cutters, hay rakers, hay halver or mowing machine. As the centenary of the War of Independen­ce (1919) will feature in the 2019 edition, any informatio­n and/or photos are most welcome. Include as much detail as possible with photos and name to whom they are to be returned to.

BARDIC FESTIVAL:

The BBF committee is finalising plans for the upcoming Bardic Festival, which will take place in the parish from Thursday, March 21st Sunday, March 24th. The Festival commences on Thursday, March 21st with a bi-lingual mass, dedicated to all teachers in the parish, past and present and in particular the late Margaret Broderick, Inch. The committee is currently seeking sponsorshi­p and patronage from the general public. Amount remains the same as last year Gold - €100, Silver - €50, Bronze - €25, Patronage - €10. The committee is excited at the line-up for the Concert/ Céilí, on Saturday, March 23rd at the Function Room, Tomáisín’s. DEATHS:

Sympathy is extended to Kay and Mike O’Gorman and family, Ballingown on the death of Kay’s mother, Mary (Jet) Costello, Ballybunio­n.

The death has occurred of Eithne Foran (nee Barrett, Ardagh, Causeway), Coolard. Sympathy is extended to her son, Dan, daughters, Eileen and Mairead, son-in-law, David, grandchild­ren, Oisín and Saoirse, her niece, Jacinta Breen, Ballyconry, the extended Dowling family, Coolard and to their extended families, her neighbours and friends. Eithne was predecease­d by her husband, John and daughter, Mary. May they rest in peace.
