COURSES

Names are currently being taken for a wide range of courses at Listowel’s Family Resource Centre with something on offer to suit all tastes and interests.locals with greenfinge­rs will be interested to imhear of a new gardening course aimed at teaching participan­ts how to grow their own vegetables. This course comes with FETAC leval 3 certificat­ion. The course will start on March 5th.

Meanwhile, Cooking on a Budget will aim to show participan­ts how to cook healthy nutritious food whilst staying within a limited budget. Staying on the cooking theme, a new cooking and nutrition course comes with FETAC Level 3 certificat­ion. The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge and skill to prepare a limited range of nutritious meals and provide for special dietary needs. The course is scheduled to commence on Thursday. February 28 at 10am The centre is also offering an art course aiming to teach attendees how to enjoy painting by using acrylics . Numbers are limited on each of these courses so early booking is advised. Colour me beautiful will offer participan­ts an opportunit­y to learn about colour and what suits you, pick up lots of tips

how to wear colours that make you look younger, more energised, more alive, make the best of your assets and not only look good but feel great.

Contact Bridie on 068 23584. Safetalk offers participan­ts an opportunit­y to learn four basic steps to recognise persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them with suicide helping resources.

What is safeTALK? It is a 1 day suicide alertness programme that prepares participan­ts to identitfy persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources.

Who should attend safeTALK? This training is suitable for everyone who wants to help prevent suicide and is prepared to become a suicide alert helper. 21st February - 10am 1.30pm Contact Toni on 068-23584

SPRING BREAK

We will have a great Spring Break week end from Friday 5th to Monday 8th April, 2019. Touring by day and dancing in our hotel every evening after dinner. CARD GAME

The prize money at last weeks card game was shared between the teams of Jackie Hartnetts, Pat Fitzgerald and John Quirke and Dan Brosnan, Peter O Mahony and John Lyons. The table prize went to the team of Margaret O Connell, Sheila Lane and Norma Gleeson. The door prize went to Jack Sullivan with raffle prizes going to Dixie Quirke, Den Lane, Kathleen Lenihan, Jack Sullivan and Pat Fitzgerald. Cards as usual on this Thursday night at 9pm and all are welcome.

FUND RAISING BINGO

Mountcolli­ns Community Centre will hosy a fund raising Bingo session on Sunday week, February 17th commencing at 3pm. A double book and one sheet will cost €15 with a single book and one sheet available at €13. A half book will cost €5. A prize fund of €2,000 will be on offer and your support would be appreciate­d.

BOTTLE BANK

Some people using the local bottle bank have returned to their bad habits with many items being discarded at the site. Users should clearly see from the directions that the containers are only suitable for unwanted clothing, drink cans as well as clear and coloured glass. All other items should be disposed of at a suitable recycling location. A large fine will be imposed on unauthoris­ed dumping by people showing little regard for the environmen­t.

MOUNTCOLLI­NS AFC

The local soccer club are now interested in recruiting players for the 2019 season. Boys and girls from six to twelve years of age and boys from thirteen years of age are welcome. Please contact Julie Murphy at 0872917140 or Mary Dillane at 0876253853 for more details.

SOCCER LOTTO

The numbers drawn at last weeks Mountcolli­ns AFC lotto were 3, 19, 20 and 22. There was no winner of the jackpot prize. The winners of the lucky dip draw were Noel Collins, C/O Kostal, Moss O Connell, Rockchapel, Tom Crowe, Shannon, Co. Clare, Oisin McCarthy, Athena and Eileen Piggot, Mountcolli­ns. The promoters prize was won by Jack Murphy. This weeks jackpot will be €1,200.

RECENT DEATH

Sympathy is extended to Joan O Grady and family on the death of her mother, Mary Brosnan, Knockawinn­a, Brosna who was laid to rest in Mountcolli­ns Cemetery after Requiem mass in Knockaclar­ig Church, last week. Sympathy is also extended to Maureen Lenihan, upper Mountcolli­ns on the death of her brother, Mickey Doody, Croagh over the weekend. May they Rest in Peace. Next week’s Jackpot is €11,500 and the draw will be held in Speedy’s Bar on Sunday, February 17 at 10.00pm.

MINOR FIXTURE: Moyvane will play John Mitchell’s in Moyvane on Saturday, February 16 at 3.00pm in Round 1 of the Minor County League.
