Doyle: It will take a huge effort

-

THE captain of the Kerry side on Sunday is Tom Doyle who plays his football with Killarney Athletic. He says it is a great honour and a privilege to be captain of the Kerry team and he says he will do his utmost to try and steer the team to victory. He says he is really looking forward to the big game and he said all his colleagues are up for the task in hand.

“We had another great win on Sunday against Waterford which has given all the squad a huge lift ahead of the huge game on Sunday,” Doyle said. “We were inconsistent early in the season but we got our act together eventually and had a great series of good results over the past couple of months. We know it will take a huge effort to beat this strong Bohemians side but we are going into the game at a great time after a series of wins and wont be lacking in confidence.

“I am looking forward to leading out the team on to Mounthawk Park on Sunday and each and every player cant wait for the game. The entire squad have helped us reach this final so competition for places on the team will be very keen. The squad now has great self belief and we must transfer this on to the pitch on Sunday and all the players will need to be fully focused on the task that lies ahead of them. No player is guaranteed their place on the team so everyone have been trying hard to impress in recent games.

“The atmosphere at the training sessions in recent weeks has been fantastic with great camaraderie between the players. I am over the moon to be the team captain in the final and I will wear the Kerry jersey with pride as will all my colleagues. I am very thankful to our manager Billy Dennehy for choosing me as captain and I will do my best not to let him down.

“We are well used to playing at Mounthawk Park now and we are very grateful to the KDL for the use of their magnificent facilities. We will be hoping to turn this to our advantage as Bohemians play on grass pitches in most games. We are calling on all soccer fans around the county to come out and attend the game on Sunday as big support is what we need to push us that extra bit which will be needed against this very strong Dublin side.”

Asked on how he rated the teams chances on Sunday he said the team will be going out with only one mission in mind and that is winning the game.

“We know we are outsiders but we also know we can lift our game even higher than we have in recent games and that will be required if we are to win this game. We have done all the preparations and Sunday is the time we will have to put everything into practice and hope that it is enough to win the game.

“Myself and James Sugrue have enjoyed watching the players develop and improve over the course of the season and we hope there will be big support for these players on the day.”

So this Kerry team are just a game away from the Promised Land lets hope they can reach it on Sunday evening.
