EVENTS GALORE IN BALLYMAC
RUNNERS TACKLE INAUGURAL BALLYMAC RUN
THERE was plenty of options for runners to choose from in Ballymac at the weekend as the inaugural ‘Run Ballymac’ event offered runners a choice of four different distances to choose from.
The event, a fundraiser for Ballymac GAA Club, was a huge success as over 250 runners and walkers togged out and set off from the community centre on Sunday morning.
Runners had the choice of taking part in a 3km, 5km, 10km or half-marathon.
“It was brilliant. It exceeded all expectations. We had huge numbers on the day. I’d say with all the registered runs and then the family run on top of that, we had over 400 people,” said Michael Brosnan, one of the organisers of the run, expressing his relief that they were lucky to miss Monday’s torrential downpour of run.
“There was very much a community feel to the whole day. We were delighted and it wouldn’t have been possible without the great committee I had alongside me helping to get everything going,” he continued.
All the money raised from the event will be going towards helping to complete to big projects for Ballymac GAA - putting together two new dressing rooms for the teams along with the construction of a walking track around the edge of the pitch.
“There are people out there who want to get fit and maybe running is not their thing so hopefully once the walking track is finished, this will help them,” Michael continued.
Here’s hoping for a 2020 return.
