Eight teams vie to reach last four of County SFC

- BY PAUL BRENNAN

THE only way eight into four will go is by halving the number of teams left in the County SFC and that means four highly anticipated quarter-finals this weekend, with Saturday’s double-header in Tralee on Saturday evening being televised live on RTE.

Defending champions Dr Crokes, if they are to keep their title defence alive and make it to the last four, will be the last team to do so, as the must wait until the second of the Fitzgerald Stadium double-header on Sunday afternoon when they take on Kenmare Shamrocks.

The RTE cameras will be in Austin Stack Park to capture, first, Killarney Legion taking on St Brendans, before last year’s semi-finalists, Dingle and East Kerry, go head to head in the second game. Last year’s meeting between that pair ended in their county semi-final replay making national headlines for all the wrong reasons after an serious fight broke out, which resulted in an eight-week suspension for Dingle selector Colm Geaney.

With so much football talent on show, not least Paul Geaney and David Clifford, all concerned will be hoping and hopeful of two great spectacles of football under Stack Park’s floodlights.

On Sunday in Killarney, South Kerry take on St Kierans in the only all-divisional team quarter-final, followed by Dr Crokes against Kenmare Shamrocks in the only all-club quarter-final.

Extra-time will be played, where required, with the county semi-finals scheduled to take place the following weekend, October 26 and 27.

The county final is scheduled for a fortnight later on November 10, with Kerry’s representative due to compete in the Munster Club SFC the following weekend, November 17, against either the Cork champions, Nemo Rangers, or the Limerick champions Oola or Newcastlewest.
