Pulley Nibbs gets back to winning ways for Moloney

-

FRIDAY night’s action produced some decent performances, but the display of Pulley Nibbs in Race 7 (A3) was particularly eye-catching. The Pat Moloney trained runner returned to winning ways with a superb run of 28.74 having made the running throughout.

Whilst failing to sparkle on his two previous outings, Pulley Nibbs was well supported in the ring and went to traps at odds of 2/1. The Sept ’17 whelp was quick to find his feet and produced a terrific turn of early foot to lead at the opening bend. The Glin runner went on to dominate the race and looked the winner a long way out.

Cashen Lualaba didn’t enjoy the best of starts from trap 6 and was further hampered when moving inside on the approach to the opening bend. However, Chris Houlihan’s runner showed plenty pace down the back straight and swiftly raced into second position through the final curves. While the Ballyduff runner was never going to get close enough to trouble the winner, he showed enough to earn close attention next time out when finishing seven lengths off the pace.

Coom Twins had been without a win since March for Gneeveguilla handler Michael Murphy but he made full use of his draw on the rails to steal an early advantage in Race 4 which was an A4 contest. The 6/4 shot held a commanding lead down the back straight however the race was firmly in the melting pot off the final bend.

Alydar had sat out the back for much of the contest, but Collette O’Reagan’s runner began to show keen interest from halfway and loomed large turning for home. His gallop was halted somewhat when he appeared to check off the final bend, allowing breathing space for Coom Twins who held on for a half a length victory in 28.97. Alydar, who must surly break his maiden tag sooner rather than later, outstayed Boher Doodah for second by a further half a length.

Also breaking the 29 second barrier was Payyaway Morton in Race 5. Keith Morton’s runner made it 5 wins from 19 starts in this A1 affair when running out a comfortable 3 ½ length winner in 28.81. Having being led past halfway by Helenas Paddy, Payyaway Morton took up the running approaching the third and pulled well clear late on to complete a polished performance. Helenas Paddy withstood a late challenge from Gulleen Bob to claim second.

Other winners on the night were Villa Home 18.22, Astra Zizi 29.46, Our Home Town 18.00, Ballymac Marge 17.76, Eminent 31.02, Millridge Blitz 28.76 and Soobub Ruben 29.05.

Moving on to Sunday evening’s SIS card where Droumreagh Ruby set the standard when justifying odds of 2/1f with a 28.83 run in Race 7 (A2). Drew Meara’s bitch is certainly a consistent performer and while she played second fiddle to Abbey Carmac through the opening exchanges, the winner asserted her supremacy off the second bend and led home her rival by a length.

Also winning on the card were Saleen Grace 29.33, Power Driven 29.05, Gneeves Blaze 28.94, That’s The Badger 29.34, Mikies Kemzo 28.99, Murphs Recruit 29.15 and Millridge Luna 29.02.
