MUNSTER JUNIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 3

Killorglin 25 Scariff 5

KILLORGLIN played their first home game of the season in Ballymalis last Sunday and secured an impressive win after a powerful performance. The home side were slow to settle and some early pressure from Scariff saw them concede five penalties in a row as the big visiting pack were dominant at the break down.

Eventually the home side began to settle into the game and started to put some good set moves together. Their endeavour was eventually rewarded when Timmy Lynch scorched over the try line for an excellent five-pointer. Luke O’Shea made no mistake with his conversion afterwards and Killorglin led by 7-0 as the half time whistle approached. Scarriff launched one further attack though, and Austin McMahon crossed for an unconverted try on the stroke of half time to see Killorglin lead by two points at the break.

Killorglin played into the breeze in the second half but dominated the early exchanges. Scariff were under all sorts of pressure and handed the home side two penalties that Luke O’Shea converted with unerring accuracy.

The home side completely dominated thereafter and added further tries from Kevin Courtney and Seamus Doyle with O’Shea converting one of them. Scariff came back at Killorglin once more but some excellent defence saw the hosts secure a well deserved victory. Killorglin now have two wins from two games.

Killarney 26 Dunmanway 18

KILLARNEY got back to winning ways when they recorded a bonus point victory over west Cork side Dunmanway at Aghadoe last Sunday. Whilst the performance from the home side wasn’t overly impressive, they did enough to secure the victory against a tough and aggressive visiting side.

Paul Moynihan touched down for two tries for the victors whilst David Howard and Joshua Fawcett also went over the whitewash. Paudie Sheehan was on form with the boot and converted three out of four.

Corca Dhuibhne 3 Ennis 35

CORCA Dhuibhne suffered their first defeat of their league campaign when a very strong Ennis side put them firmly to the sword at Carraig last Sunday.

The game started brightly for the home side and a penalty from Seamus Moriarty saw them take a 3-0 lead with 18 minutes played. Ennis replied almost immediately with a Ronan O’Halloran penalty and soon afterwards some indiscipline by the home side saw them yellow carded and reduced to 14 men. Ennis took full advantage of their numerical superiority with a try from Michael Lyons. Indiscipline continued to plague the home side and they lost another player to the sin bin.

Ennis were ruthless and attacked the home sides rearguard in waves. Further tries followed from Lyons, David Flynn, Morgan Garry and Cian Guilfoyle, with O’Halloran adding a penalty and three conversions. A day to forget for Corca Dhuibhne but they will have it all to do again next Sunday when they travel to play the same opposition in the Martin O’Sullivan Cup.
