AWARDS GALORE FOR DUAGH KIDS
SCHOOL PLAYS HOST TO THE ANNUAL DUAGH/ LYREACOMPANE COMMUNITY GAMES AWARDS NIGHT
THERE was a celebratory mood in Duagh National School last Friday night as the school played host to the Duagh/Lyre Community Games awards night.
An annual event, the awards night is one which aims to both recognise and celebrate all participants across various events and activities – such as art, handwriting, gymnastics, music, athletics, team sports namely: basketball, soccer, futsal, tag rugby and draughts – during 2019.
For the Duagh/Lyre area, 2019 proved to be a very successful year as the group excelled right across the spectrum, whether they were County, Munster or indeed National events.
Looking back on some of the success enjoyed by the games over 2019, there were some fantastic stand-out moments for all to enjoy.
Just some of the kids whose hard work was recognised on Friday night included James Dillon, who was part of the Under-14 Kerry Cross Country team; Dylan Buckley, who took part in his second National Finals when he enjoyed a great outing at the Under-12 Ball Throw; and Saoirse Dillon, who won a National gold in the Under-12 100m sprint.
Talented artist Erin Welch also finished off the year on a strong note by winning the Zurich Young Portrait Prize
In the ‘Cycling on Grass’ competitions, Duagh/Lyre had three representatives at National finals: U12s Ronan
Sheridan and Aibhilín Cudlipp, and under-14 Angharad Cudlipp. All enjoyed a great outing.
The overall success of the games last year was put down to the hard work of participants, who were ably supported by their parents, families and community games committee.
Attendance was high on the night as the kids received their awards from Norma Doran and Sheila Cahill.
