GARDAÍ continue to investigate a fatal road-collision in Kilcummin last Thursday morning, the second fatal collision on Kerry roads in a matter of days.

Eddie Kelliher (73) of Leamnaguilla, Kilcummin, was laid to rest on Monday following the fatal crash, which happened at around 6.45am last Thursday. The fatherof-four was transferred to University Hospital Kerry, where he was pronounced dead.

His wife, Mary, was a passenger at the time of the collision at Finnegan’s Cross. At the time of going to print, Garda sources told The Kerryman that she is still in University Hospital Kerry, and her condition remains critical.

Gardaí added that the male driver of the other car involved in the collision was discharged from hospital on Monday.

Mr Kelliher’s Funeral Mass, at which Fr Padraig Kennelly was the chief celebrant, took place at the Church of St Gertrude’s, Firies, after which he was buried in Kilquane Graveyard, Barraduff, Killarney. Neighbours have described Mr Kelliher as a quiet, unassuming man, and further described Mr Kelliher and his wife as a lovely couple.

It came just three days after father-oftwo Michael Moynihan (55) was killed after the van he was driving collided with an articulated lorry on the N21 at Meenleitrim, just outside Castleisland.

Mr Kelliher is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Jimmy, John, and Eamon; daughter, Marie; sister, Breda; grandchildren; daughters-in-law; brother-in-law; sister-in-law; nieces; nephews; relatives; neighbours and friends. Gardaí continue to appeal for anyone with information on the collision to contact Killarney Garda Station at (064) 667 1160; the confidential line at 1800 666 111; or and Garda station.
