Come in and discover new worlds at Tech Amergin...
WHERE the transatlantic cable once connected Waterville with the world, today the Tech Amergin Community Arts & Education Centre serves as a modern lighthouse to bring knowledge and culture from the region itself and from around the globe to local people and visitors.
Tech Amergin under the aegis of Kerry ETB organises a variety of courses for the local community under accredited and non-accredited options. Accredited courses on offer at the centre range from level 3 up to 6.
The centre runs a number of accredited QQI courses in the Art, Craft & Design subject areas that include Woodwork, Veneering & Marquetry, Printmaking, Collage Techniques, Stained Glass & Mosaic, Advanced Painting, Textiles, Combined Materials, Intermediate & Advanced Ceramics, as well as other courses in I.T. & Design including Word Processing (Intermediate), Digital Photography (Beginners & Advanced), & Desk Top Publishing (Intermediate). In the Healthcare area we run a number of First Aid Responder (PHECC) as well as First Aid Refresher courses throughout the year. Last year the centre ran an introductory course in ‘Irish Sign Language’, while this term we hope to offer an intermediate class in Irish Sign Language, a level 4 accredited QQI course. Depending on interest, the course will run every second Saturday, starting in February.
The centre also offers a range of hobby type courses and community education courses in a wide range of subjects including Pilates, Yoga, Fiddling with Fabric, Woodwork for Fun, Buying & Selling on the Internet, Painting Doctor, Set-Dancing, Creative Writing, Art & Design for the Active Retired, Digital Photography Skills and An Introduction to Stained Glass.
Specialised workshops this term include a Masterclass in Mosaic Design; this will run on a Thursday for three weeks starting in February. This course will cover different aspects of photography including available light photography, architecture, reproduction of old photography and art pieces, landscape photography, macro and long exposure photography.
