Tralee talent Seamus Harty serenades the neighbourhood
HE got great acclaim last week after posting his lockdown song online and now Tralee teenager Seamus Harty is garnering even more acclaim after he staged a fantastic outdoor gig for his family and neighbours on Thursday.
In a video posted online by his dad, Roger Harty, the video shows neighbhours - all of them abiding by social distancing rules - sitting and enjoying a great performance by the Mercy Mounthawk Leaving Certificate student as he performed a very beautiful rendition of the song ‘Hero’ by Enrique Iglesias.
The video has since been viewed over 14,000 times online and speaking to The Kerryman, Seamus, he said that the idea was the brainchild of his parents and neighbours.
“I think my parents and some of the neighbours were talking about doing something and they thought that it would be quite nice. I mean, if you’ve got a musician who’s living on the road, you might as well make use of him,” he said with a laugh.
As a musician who has not been able to play to many live audiences over the past few weeks, Seamus weas not going to pass up such an opprtunity to belt out some tunes.
“We’d be close with a lot of the neighbours and I suppose it was just a small and a nice way to distract everyone from what’s been going on.
Seamus’ session lasted for almost an hour-and-a-half and with the sunshine and his parents and neighbours enjoying a drink or two and a chat with friends, it was surely a welcome break for all involved.
On a personal note for
Seamus, he said that he has not been too much hampered by the lockdown and has been spending much of his free time in his make-shift studio above his dad’s shop where he has been working from 9am until 1am on writing more songs and fine-tuning his already stellar skills.
So whenever this lockdown does end and life returns to normal, we’ll have some new music by Seamus to enjoy.
