If a North Kerry senior football team
ACOUPLE of weeks ago in The Kerryman, following our investigation into the current state of North Kerry football, we gave our readers the opportunity to become team selectors for the day.
With the discussions already having started between Shannon Rangers and Feale Rangers to amalgamate, initially at minor and under-21 levels, we asked readers to pick their combined North Kerry senior team if both divisional sides joined together right now.
There was an excellent response to the proposal, with 41 different players receiving nominations for the much-coveted starting places in our ‘fantasy’ starting 15.
In the end, having sifted through all the replies, there weren’t too many positions that caused an awful lot of deliberation for our readers, with several automatic choices in the line-up.
Indeed, five players were selected on every single team we received – defenders Sean T Dillon (St Senans), Jason and Mitch Foley (Ballydonoghue), Shane Enright (Tarbert), and midfielder Barry
Mahony (St Senans).
Several other names were part of the vast majority of the prospective line-ups – Darragh O’Shea (Ballydonoghue), Mikey Boyle (Ballyduff), Brian O Seanachain (Ballydonoghue), Conor Cox (Listowel Emmets) and Anthony Maher (Duagh).
Those ten players formed the overall spine of the team, and they were joined by five others, with all 15 individuals having worn the green and gold jersey of Kerry at some level, emphasising the point that there is certainly an abundance of footballing talent in the North Kerry district.
HERE is the combined North Kerry starting 15 (nine Shannon Rangers and six Feale Rangers) as selected by
