The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Of getting back in July

-

so far, anyway.

“The whole lot is up in the air regarding circuits. If It goes on much longer, I don’t think there will be championships as there won’t be enough rounds. There’s talks of trying to get the cars back on circuits as there is greater area for social distancing but apparently there is a lot more contact in the running of motorcycle events.”

Kerry’s youngest racer, Kevin Coyne, 18, was on target to enter the early rounds of the domestic series before heading to England and racing in later rounds of the British Super Bike Championship, until the restrictions scuppered his plans.

He is waiting for official announcements on both sides of the Irish Sea so he can get his season back on track.

“We are monitoring England as well and if that opens up before Ireland we will head over there,” said the Killarney-based rider.

RALLYING in Kerry has gone viral thanks to an online documentary created by Killarney’s Hollywood A-lister, Michael Fassbender, to mark his participation in last year’s cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes.

Fassbender was the event ambassador as the rally celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019. A self-confessed petrol head, previously he had raced in Ferrari Challenge events in the USA but last year’s Rally of the Lakes was his first time contesting any rally.

The online documentary, which airs on social media website VERO, follows the Oscar-nominated star’s progress in the rally, an event won by local rally star Paul Nagle.

Part one and two of the series can be viewed on https://vero.co/ michaelfassbender, with the third and final episode scheduled for next Tuesday, May 26.
