Killorglin: looking to a new future with optimism...
WE all know by now that for the first time in its history, Puck Fair - Ireland’s oldest festival - has been cancelled. Declan Falvey, Chairman of Puck Fair, stated at the time that the health, wellbeing and safety of our visitors, volunteers and residents is paramount, and it was necessary to comply with government legislation and guidelines.
As Chairperson of Killorglin Chamber Alliance, I would like to thank the public in advance for their ongoing support and cooperation in complying with Government legislation and the World Health Organization’s Health & Safety guidelines, and we look forward to bringing Puck Fair back to Killorglin in 2021.
Moreover, the cancellation of the June Bank Holiday K-Fest event is another setback for the local economy in Killorglin. However, the community in Killorglin is resilient and we are already planning for re-opening and pandemic recovery. Our businesses have adapted by changing their business models and their work practices.
As more businesses reopen in the coming months, it is important that we support local retailers and traders. Our workers, many of whom are working from home, will be returning to work in Killorglin soon and our tourism businesses will gradually resume.
Our websites are valuable resources for our community, and for visitors. There is much valuable information and news on Killorglin.ie and Reeksdistrict. com for Killorglin residents, workers and visitors. We’ve had to make difficult decisions these past few weeks, but the focus is now very much on the future of business, tourism and hospitability - a future in which the people of Killorglin can help shape in its recovery.
