Support Abbeyfeale like never before

-

FORGET about the big cities and the so-called superstores. Abbeyfeale like most rural towns and villages is the place to be as the world goes to war with an invisible killer.

At a time when we most needed them, locally based businesses in Abbeyfeale who are allowed to open during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone way beyond what anyone would have previously expected in their efforts to adapt to a worldwide emergency and look after those in our community.

Management and staff of locally based businesses have in effect become the frontline workers of our towns, villages and wider communities.

It is their extraordinary often-behind-the-scenes efforts that have kept us supplied with food and essentials during these uncertain times and as a result have helped us to keep safe and healthy. Saving lives is not what we associate with locally based retailers but make no mistake about it, this is exactly what they are doing and we should never forget it.

The question now is how well we will remember these Community Live Savers as the economy and our travel options slowly open up. There has never been a more critical time to support our own and keep our communities alive. Our local businesses have helped to keep us safe when we may not always have been the most loyal to them, but from now on it is our God given duty to return the favour and become lifelong supporters and friends to all our local based businesses. Stay local and support and promote those that support us and our community.

Maurice OConnell, Chairperson, Abbeyfeale Community Council
