June 1995

A MYSTERY buyer has purchased Knightly’s bar in Tralee for a sum believed to be close to £165,000.

Tralee auctioneer Sean Walsh purchased the property in trust for the new owner who is expected to take possession of the bar after the Festival of Kerry.

Mr Walsh would not disclose who purchased the property. Selling agent Eddie Barrett of North’s auctioneers said the bar was sold on Wednesday but said that he did not know who the purchaser was.

Solicitor John Galvin acted for the new owner and speculation is intensifying that the new owner may have a sporting connection given the strong sporting connections of Mr Walsh and Mr Galvin.

The premises was originally withdrawn at auction when it reached a bid of £152,000 which Mr Barrett indicated to bidders at the time was very close to the reserve set by the vendor.

The highest bidder at the original auction was solicitor Donal Browne, acting on the instructions of a client.

There were a total of 18 bids and solicitor Michael Kelly of Pat Mann solicitors was the highest under bidder dropping out at £150,000.
