KERRYHOSPICE FOUNDATION EVENTS

As you all know by now we have had to cancal several events due to Covid 19. Thankfully, we have wonderful supporters who continue to fundraise, raising funds for the Kerry Hospice Foundation. We are overwhelmed by the wonderful support from right around the county.

The countdown is on. Next weekend why not take to the roads with your family for our virtual Run/ Walk. To add some fun to this event we also have a best dressed, which Mars O’Connell and Deirdre Walsh will judge from the pictures received.

This is again all done on line and it is important to send in your pictures to the Facebook page. You choose the distance either 5k/10k or 21km (half marathon) in your own time. Medals for everyone.

Also, there will be a trophy for fastest male/female over the 5k/10/21k distance so it’s up to ye to submit your tracking information afterwards.

We would like to thank you a for your continued support.

GUIDELINESFORTHE DIOCESEOFKERRY

St. Bernard’s Church Abbeydorney and St. Mary’s Church Kilflynn will be open for private prayer from 11 a.m. -- 7 p.m daily. Please use the sanitisers provided, observe social distancing, follow the signs and do not to enter the areas where access has been restricted. The churches will be closed during Mass times.

Priests or other church personnel (sacristan, cantor, volunteer) over 70 or with underlying vulnerable medical conditions are not to be involved in funeral liturgies or prayers. This is in line with the regulation regarding ‘cocooning’. Funerals the regulation =9110 or less’ applies to the cemetery as well. Burial follows immediately on the Mass. All HSE guidelines are to be observed, no shaking hands, social distancing etc.Simple Mass, none of the usual family participation. No distribution of Communion as it involves each host being touched. No Funeral Pall as it would involve a lot of touching. Masses are to continue, where possible, to be transmitted via webcam etc. The Mass should be celebrated by the priest alone without reader or cantor. All baptisms and weddings are postponed until further notice. At this difficult time, it is good to remember that the whole Church of Christ is present in every Diocese and that each time Mass is celebrated or the Divine Office prayed, it is done in union with and on behalf of the whole diocese.

THELATEMOSSSPILLANE

It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Maurice (Moss) Spillane, Balloonagh Estate and formerly Scartaglin. Moss was a constant figure at Austin Stacks Park,Tralee and his welcoming smile was ever present. On big match days/ trainings it was always a pleasure to speak with Moss who by the way always remembered everybody. His relaxed nature and kindness had a calming effect with teams. Moss along with his fellow grounds men maintain Austin Stack and Caherslee pitches to the highest standard and both were always available and in perfect condition to county and clubs teams when needed. A true GAA man and gentleman who presents will be sadly missed and I have no doubt his name will be spoken of fondly for many years to come. The Crotta Hurling club would like to extend our sympathies to his wife Mary, his daughters Michelle, Tracey, Deirdre and Ashling, his relatives, friends and GAA colleagues. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

The GAA Player Injury Scheme will remain closed until an official return to activity is confirmed. Clubs are reminded that membership and public liability will need to be in place for the return of our activities and are advised to process same in the weeks ahead.

KILMOYLEY BEREAVEMENT

Sympathies are extended to the McCarthy family, Sackville, Ardfert following the passing this week of Michael McCarthy. Sadly missed by his loving wife Ann Marie ( nee Riordan) and much loved Dad of Keith (Lixnaw), Declan (Ardfert) and the late Michael, daughters-in- law Ann and Trina, his 4 grandchildren, brothers John (London) and Noel (Tralee), sisters Peg Goggin (Causeway), Bessey O’ Neill (Kenmare), Kate (Kenmare) and the late Mary, brothers-in-law, sisters-inlaw, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

Michael’s funeral took place in St. Brendan’s Church, Ardfert and was followed by burial afterwards in the New Cemetery Kilmoyley. Kilmoyley hurling clubSympathiesThe club would like to extend its sympathies to the family of Moss

Spillane, Balloonagh estate, Tralee, formerly of Scartaglin. Moss would have been very familiar to the club over the years as he was a longtime steward at Austin Stack park, Tralee and was always a welcoming face for every team arriving for a game.

SPLITTHEBUCKET

The juvenile club Split the Bucket draw was suspended in March when the Government announced the Covid-19 lockdown. The club has decided not to resume the draw until the Government restrictions are lifted in terms of GAA activity in the, hopefully not too distant future. As there were a number of existing entries in the buckets at that time, the club decided to hold a draw last Friday evening with the winner collecting the Full jackpot rather than a 50% split. The winner of the draw is Luke O’Mahony. Luke will receive a jackpot of €154 which was the total of all monies entered in the draw.

The juvenile club is also delighted to announce that it will match this amount with a donation to the Childrens Ward of UHK.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our draws to date and when club activities resume our draws will also resume.

SKILLSVIDEOS

For the third week running our juvenile hurlers were out in great numbers practicing their skills around the gardens of the parish and thanks to the video skills of their parents, some brilliant footage was captured for the club’s facebook page. Players that submitted videos were entered in a draw for a Shane Brick hurley. The draw took place on Saturday evening and the winner, picked out of the hat by senior hurling captain John B O’Halloran was Colm O’Sullivan. Congratulations to Colm and enjoy the prize. Well done to all our hurlers and remember to keep practicing.

Last week’s videos on the Kilmoyley facebook page were viewed over 1,500 times.

THESUNDAYGAME

It was great to see Kilmoyley manager John Meyler featuring on the Sunday game last weekend. Unfortunately for John, the show replayed Cork’s All-Ireland semi final defeat to Limerick after extra time in 2018, one of the great games of recent times.

CANCELLED

As with all public events this Summer, the 2020 Féile na Gael competition due to be held in Dublin, Kildare and Meath in June has been cancelled due to the Covidrestrictions. This would have been the 50th year of a competition which was first held in 1971, hosted by Tipperary. Kilmoyley is the most successful team in Kerry in this event with 13 titles, the first coming in 1974 plus 2 All-Irelands in 1987 and 1991. Over the next few weeks the club will be looking to gather the memories, photos and stories of players, mentors and anyone involved in those victories. It will be kept as an archive of this wonderful competition which has become so fond to the hurling hurling fraternity in the county. Further details will be included on the clubs facebook page so look out for further details or contact club PRO Ian Brick for details.
