GLIN TO WUHAN

For the last 8 years Glin Knights Cycling Club has held an Annual Sportive to raise money for various Charities and organisations raising over €90,000. Unfortunately our 2020 sportive has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

However we still intend to raise funds this summer as all of our members and friends are going to joining up to compete in a 9,000km challenge. The planned weekend is the 20th and 21st of June. This is the distance from

Glin to Wuhan. There is no limit to the Km’s anyone can do, so some may do 20km and others may do 300km (of course weather dependant). We hope to have 60 to 70 cyclists taking part from their homes and all of the time abiding by the guidelines set out by the HSE. We will list out km covered at the end and hopefully we’ll hit our target or even break it.

CHURCHOPENING

The Church of the Assumption in Mountcollins is now opened daily from 11am to 4pm for personal prayer and to light candles in your own time. You are asked to use the sanitising liquid at the entrance and obey social distancing. As the churches in the parish have been closed for several weeks the weekly offerings have not been collected. This coming weeken May 30th and 31st will see members of the finance committee attend our local church to collect the weekly envelopes, the Easter dues which are for the support of the local priests and your contributions to Trocaire. These will be collected on Saturday evening in Mountcollins from 7pm to 8pm and Sunday from 11am to 12pm.

COMMUNITYWARNING

Over the past week a number of reports have come in from a number of areas of people calling to homes enquiring about the purchase of pups. One of these individuals was in Mountcollins last week where he stole three pups while the owner was distracted. If you are suspicious of strangers in your area or the movement of strange cars or vans please report it to the Gardai and if possible get the registration and vechicle type. Under no circumstances allow these people onto your property without a valid reason.

HONOURSLIST

In the Birthday Honours alist of King George V which was published in June 4th 1938 in the Times newspaper the honour of M.B.E. was bestowed on Cornelius Curran, Senior Staff Officer, Noard of Customs and Exise. This gentleman was a native of Mountcollins and a member of a very talented and highly respected family. His friends in his native parish felt proud of the distinction conferred on him and extended their congratulations and best wishes. As the Curran name dies out in the parish a long time ago, would any person know where the family lives or if their is any surviving or distant relatives.
