Revisiting ‘This is your life’ project
CASTLEISLAND Day Care Centre clients were invited to speak with Presentation Castleisland transition year (TY) students’ class of 2022/23 about their life experiences.
Some of the clients gave a little history of who they married, what they worked at and their family lives and they were also asked to share some family photographs of their life’s journey.
The TY students then collaborated all the information which they had gathered and, along with the photographs, they put into a hard-back photo book. These books are being presented to the participants /family members on March 7 th in St. John’s Hall in Presentation Castleisland from 2pm to 3pm with a cup of tea in the day care centre.
Castleisland Day Care Centre which just across the street from the school on Creamery Lane / Convent Street has a good working relationship with Presentation Secondary as it has with all the local schools.
The centre accepts students on work placements and involves the schools in various projects.
“We are particularly proud of this project because it is a beautiful memento for clients and family members to cherish and a great learning experience for the students,” said centre nurse manager Marcella Finn.
Castleisland Day Care Centre, which was officially opened in mid spring of 2002, has an impressive record in publishing client generated material.
Linking up with Kerry County Council Arts Department, Creative Community Grant Scheme in 2018 the centre and its clients proudly launched, in May 2019, a book under the banner: Wisdom in Togetherness; Reflections; Stories and Letters.
In the years leading up to that launch, the centre also released two CDs and books of client favoured and performed songs to great local acclaim.
The latest collaboration with the students trasna an bóthar has forged another link in the chain of creativity initiated and promoted at the centre since that opening date in March 2002.
