PARISH GATHERING

in his Pastoral Letter, “Moving Forward in Hope”, Bishop Ray invites all parishioners to participate in a consultation process to shape the future of pastoral areas and parishes. A consultation gathering will be held in our parish of Moyvane/ Knockanure on Tuesday 5th March 2024 at 7.30pm in the Marian Hall, Moyvane. As preparation for the gathering, you are invited to reflect on the following three questions: 1. Without the presence of a priest to lead and coordinate, what aspects of parish life could we, the laity, take responsibility for and organise ourselves? 2. Where do we see scope for cooperation with neighbouring parishes in our pastoral area? 3. Given what Bishop Ray has said about reducing numbers and increasing age, what do we want to say to priests? Many thanks for your support and assistance for this consultation.

Nature Trail; 1. There will be some details from those organising the Consultation. 2. Currently, The Local Nature Trail is part of St. Brendan’s Trust (diocese of Kerry). It is being proposed by the diocesan property manager, that it be handed over to Kerry County Council with conditions that it remain a public amenity. Since it is linked to the parish through St. Brendan’s Trust, as parishioners, your views are welcome.

LISTOWEL

LIOS TUATHAIL AC

Munster Indoors: An extremely busy day last Saturday in Nenagh for Day 1 of the U12 - u19 Munster Championships. Lios Tuathail AC had athletes competing across a large field of events today with entries in some events exceeding over 100 athletes. Our first athlete of the day to compete was Thomas Keane in the u15 hurdles. A very tough event and a straight final. No medals today unfortunately but plenty more jumping to come from this young man. Our middle distance runners today were Emer O’Sullivan, Sofia Barjac, Mollie O’Riordan and Emma Neylon. Although no medals for these ladies, they held their position and ran fantastic races. Our 200m athlete today was Maddie O’Riordan.

Our 60m athletes were U12 Emer O’Sullivan, with 14 heats of this age group, the competition was very high and unfortunately Emer didn’t progress to the semi-finals but ran a superb race.

U13 Sophie O Flaherty and Sofia Barczak, both qualifying for the semi-final and were unlucky not to progress to the final. A special mention to Sofia competing for the very first time at the Munster Championships. Our U14 60m athletes were Isabelle Larkin and Chloe O Flaherty. Unfortunately, after a nasty tumble during her race, Isabelle did not qualify for the semi-final but got up and finished the event, a super sign of a great athlete. Chloe progressed from the heats and semi-finals to claiming a Munster gold in final.

A fantastic achievement for this young talented lady. U17 400m Dylan O Callahan, this was Dylans first time competing in this event and after 3 heats, Dylan claimed the second fastest time to take home the silver medal. Well done Dylan. Our long jumpers today were Emer O Sullivan and Chloe O Flaherty. Chloe was unlucky not to medal today but came away in 4th position, qualifying her for Nationals. Chloe was in 3rd position until the last round with cms separating her from a medal.

Well done to all our athletes on superb performances today and to all parents for travelling today. Chloe Flaherty and Dylan O’Callaghan have both qualified for National finals. Thanks to coach Rochelle Griffin O’Riordan for assisting the athletes today and to parents Joanne Flaherty and Kieran O’Sullivan along with all other parents. Day 2 of the Munster Championships First athlete on the track today was Maddie O’Riordan in the u16 60m hurdles, where she booked a place in the final after coming 4th in her heat.

Although no medal in the final, she ran a great race to finish top 6 in Munster. Up next was Isabella McEnery in the U14 60m hurdles. Isabella ran a great race to book her place in the semi final but unfortunately didn’t make the final. Plenty more to come for these two ladies in hurdles. Our 60m sprinters today were brothers Steve Reidy in u16 and Ritchie Reidy in u13, although no medals today both ran superb races, up against some top sprinters. Long jumpers today were Tally and Alex Collins, Donnacha Quilter, Steve Reidy and Sophie Flaherty. Steve and Sophie both made it into the final eight, getting a further three jumps and were among fantastic jumpers with Sophie getting a new PB but our gold medallist Munster Champion for U14 Long jump was Donnacha Quilter and a place secured for the All Ireland finals. Long jump u17 Tally Collins, jumping fantastic jumps but missing out on medal position by only 2cm to come 4th earning a place in National finals.

U15 Alex Collins improving with every jump, finished up in 3rd position to take home the bronze medal. U18 400m track athletes today were Mollie O’Riordan and Emma Neylon. Great running by these two ladies with Mollie taking home the silver medal.

Next up on the track was Dylan O’Callahan in the u17 800m, finishing in 2nd place to add to his winnings from yesterday. High jumpers today were Maddie O’Riordan in u16 and Sophie Flaherty in u13 both coming away with fantastic pbs and Sophie claiming 2nd place to secure her place in the National finals. Well done to all our athletes, a great weekend of medals, pbs and overall fantastic participation of the Munster Championships. Well done to all our athletes and parents for travelling over both days. Thank you to all the Munster officials for another successful and well organised competition.
