World-renowned storyteller Taffy Thomas hits Listowel’s Kerry Writers’ Museum
WORLD renowned storyteller Taffy Thomas MBE will perform in Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel on Monday March 11 at 8 pm as part of his current Irish tour, treating the gathered story fans to a range of tales from his muchloved repertoire.
Taffy Thomas began his career as a drama and literature teacher in Wolverhampton, before moving into founding and directing the legendary folk theatre, Magic Lantern.
He then went on to found and direct the Charivari Community Arts Company in the UK.
After a major stroke at the age of 36, Taffy went back to his love of storytelling, firstly as a form of speech therapy, and then as a new career which has led him to being the UK’s leading storyteller.
He was the first storytelling laureate and is also a patron of the Storytelling Society. Professional storyteller Giles Abbot once commented that ‘when Taffy goes it will be like a library burning down’, such is the breadth of Taffy’s collection from around the world, including many Irish tales, folklore, songs and riddles.
Taffy will be joined, meanwhile, by English traditional musician Mossy Christian and acclaimed Irish storyteller Maria Gillen who was Storyteller in Residence at Kerry Writers’ Museum in 2021 and 2022.
Maria has represented Irish Storytelling in five genres on three continents and most recently told stories on behalf of James McIntyre the Irish Ambassador to Morocco at an Irish Cultural evening in Marrakech.
This is a free event, and no booking required.
