Iveragh United retain their spot at the top of the table despite being held to a draw by Killorglin B.

A young and energetic South Kerry side began the game on the front foot at Cahersiveen and went ahead after just five minutes when Fintan O’Sullivan was played in on goals and he applied a calm finish.

Their lead did not last long as an Iveragh defender was deemed to have fouled an opponent in the box the referee awarded a penalty kick, which was successfully converted.

Iveragh United found the net twice just after this with fine strikes by Kevin and Ian Moriarty but both were not allowed for infringements.

Then the home side went ahead again from an unlikely source with their goalkeeper David Murphy’s long delivery from his own box behaving erratically in the air and after bouncing in the strong gale in the goalmouth it deceived the

Killorglin goalie and wound up in the back of the net.

Afterwards they extended their lead when an Anthony Cournane corner kick went all the way to the net.

Classic pegged back a goal after a break-down in communication between two Classic FC defenders gifted a scoring chance to Classic and they availed of it.

They brought the game back to parity just before half-time with a great strike and it was 3-3 after a very exciting and very entertaining first half.

Killorglin took the lead early in the second half but Iveragh United kept pressing their opponents and they equalised in the 75th minute with an Anthony Cournane goal.

Both sides did their best to try and engineer a winner, but it failed to materialise and the sides just had to settle for a point each at the end.

Iveragh’s policy of bringing on youth players to play at senior level has been very successful with six former youth players in the starting line out in this game and two more on the bench.
