Local KABB season closes with Juvenile U-12 Plate finals in Castleisland

THE Plate finals at the under-12 age grade will bring the curtain down on this season’s Kerry Area Basketball Board cup and plate finals. There is the added bonus of the delayed U-18 Girls Cup final between TK Bobcats and Tralee Magic at Castleisland Community Centre, which will round off the Bank Holiday Monday at 6pm.

TK Bobcats are on top of the league but are finished while both Cahersiveen and Glenbeigh Falcons have two games in hand but must play each other. When TK Chorca Dhuibhne and Cahersiveen met in late February, Cahersiveen won 23-15.

In the Boys U-12 final Rathmore Ravens and St Josephs U-12 meet in what should be a cracker because they are level on 11 points each in the league and when they met Rathmore just won by 25 points to 22.

In the Division 2 Girls Plate final St Pauls take on St Josephs with St Pauls fancied to win the league but they only beat St Josephs last week in the league 18-14 so it could go either way.

In the Boys Division 2 Plate final St Annes will be fancied to beat TK Bobcats as they have a 36-23 league win over the Bobcats but nothing can be predicted in finals.

Next up is the U-12 Division Girls Plate final where a local derby between St Marys and St Bridget’s could well be the game of the day. St Marys sit on top of the league table but when they met in the league in January St Marys won by the minimum 2928 after a cracking contest so it’s a real open contest.

In the U-12 Boys Division 1 final St Brendans take on St Marys and again this is hard to come down on one side or the other as St Brendans beat St Marys 28-18 in the league in February but home court advantage could close the gap with St Marys probably fancied reversing the league result.

The final game between Tralee Magic and TK Bobcats in the Girls Division 1 Cup final should be a cracker as they are joint top of the league with FIBA rule required to separate them so this is a real toss of coin.
