BALLYDUFF GAA

U15 Football: Our u15 footballers kicked off their County League campaign with a home game against East Kerry’s Gneeveguilla. Despite the prolonged atrocious weather conditions the pitch was in fine shape for this encounter. Both teams lined out minus key players, however those who took to the field gave it their all for their respective sides. The travelling side opened the scoring with a well taken point which was quickly cancelled out by Ballyduff.

The home side kept the pressure on notching up some good scores with both teams guilty of some wayward shooting also. In what was a lovely night for football the crowd was treated to great passages of end to end play. Victory and the two league points on the night went to the boys in Green. Well done to players and management. Thanks to Gneeveguilla for making the trip and to Tommy Guerin for refereeing the game.

BROSNA

BROSNA GAA

Our senior team stepped out in Round 2 of the Senior County Football League against Beale. A brisk day in Ballybunion saw the teams duke it out for the duration of the game. Brosna finally got ahead in the last five minutes with a two point margin. Beale showed no signs of capitulating and found two scores to bring the game to a draw at full time. A spirited game by both sides. Roll on Round 3.

THANK YOU

A big thank you to Fr Spillane and his guest Fr O’Connor who officiated at the devotions that ran throughout Holy Week. The various rituals and services that accompany this pivotal time in the Christian calendar were conducted with grace and solemnity. It is a packed schedule, filled with so much meaning, and no small task to complete. We are grateful for the energy and significance Fr Spillane and Fr O’Connor brought to it all. Many thanks to all those who supported the priests at this time too.A notable mention to Catherine Nash who delivered another memorable choir experience. Catherine has a talent for choosing hymns that follow the story of the Passion, weaving harmonies, and patiently schooling her choir. The music meaningfully complemented the masses and added a lovely dimension to the proceedings. We appreciate all the time and expertise you bring to your role.

ON YER BIKE

The big road race that swept through Brosna at the weekend was incredible. Cyclists, flying like that wind blew in from Castleisland and moved like lightning onto the Cork line heading for Fealesbridge. I wasn’t surprised to see the usual faces on duty in Brosna stewarding. As ever, solid members of the GAA, Parish, Hall, and Tidy Town cohorts were ensuring a safe passage for cyclists and local traffic. We are a great Parish to get behind events and support neighbouring communities in their endeavours.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

It’s incredible that April is upon us. I did a bit of research to try to discover the meaning behind this month’s name. There’s a theory that it derives from the Latin verb Aperire, meaning to open, signifying this month as one when buds start to open. Maybe we could take our lead from this concept and open our minds to positive thoughts, open our hearts to forgiveness and open our eyes to the grandeur of this month. Nature is beginning to put on her finery for the year ahead. Welcome each dandelion and daisy as symbols of the summer to come. Let spring blossom in your heart.

TS Elliot the poet said that April is the Cruellest Month because it churns up our human desires with a promise of the exuberance of Summer only for all our endeavours to end in the decay of winter. It might be easy to sit back and deny ourselves an opportunity to live fully knowing that in the end we will shuffle off into eternity. But to exist in this way would represent a failure in us to understand our life’s purpose. We are not here for the achievements, the goals, or the destinations that mark human success. We are here for the quiet simplicity of our individual journeys. How we live each day, the connections we make, being present in the small days of our lives. Every minute is as valuable as the one just passed and the next one to come. We are only alive in the present moment not in the future and not in the past.
